Description
This piece is made from recycled oak that was used as one of many barriers in a Dublin park.
One of our club members (Eugene) gave a club demonstration on turning it into a bud vase. He gave out pieces of oak for club members to turn as a competition piece. I got first place for my effort!!
This is a double sided bud vase. I burned it on one face and not the other. I inserted an unburned piece of oak into the burned face and a burned piece of oak into the unburned face for contrast. A plastic insert is fitted to hold water for a cut flower.
I hollowed the piece before inserting and gluing the oak pieces.
I wire brushed the burned face to raise the grain and then wiped gold bees’ wax into the grain for contrast against the burned surface.
Finish: Acrylic sanding sealer; Acrylic gloss lacquer; Microcrystalline wax.
