Description
L19 is the second in my ‘Turning Squares’ series.
Each square 8.5cm x 8.5cm x 1.8cm
Centre piece: 27cm x 8.5cm x 3cm
Each square was burned and textured with a rotary wire brush.
Each square was decorated with Verdigris and then with gold paint.
Centre piece: Machine carved to the same shape as L19 *(see below) and decorated with art from Newgrange Megalithic passage tomb (https://www.newgrange.com/).
It was then coloured with black spirit stain and Microcrystalline wax.
*L19 is the name given to the nineteenth Orthostat (standing stone) on the left side of the entrance passage to the megalithic passage tomb in Newgrange, County Meath, Ireland. The black centrepiece of this wall hanging is a copy of the megalithic art which decorates L19. Other decorations from the Newgrange passage tomb are inscribed on some of the squares.
