Tom Ronayne is a retired cabinetmaker and woodwork teacher.

I have been wood turning since 1995 and am a member of Craobh Cúig Déag woodturning club in Dublin, Ireland. I am a member of the Irish Woodturners Guild (IWG) Irish Woodturners Guild (iwg.ie) and a member of the American Association (AAW) AAW Main Homepage (woodturner.org) since 1999.

I give demonstrations in my local club and in other clubs around Ireland and I teach woodturning to adults in night school.

I like the challenge of turning odd and unusual pieces, especially wall hangings.

Hollowing, colouring, airbrushing, texturing and piercing are also favourites of mine.

I have attended many IWG seminars over the years but it was my first attendance at an AAW symposium in Richmond VA in 2008 that had a huge influence on my turning as I witnessed woodturning as an art form being demonstrated for the first time. I followed this by attending the AAW symposium in Phoenix AZ in 2014 and then in Portland OR in 2024.

I have attended many online demonstrations also and I am a regular at my own club and at demonstrations in other Irish clubs.

I attended a two day one-on-one wood turning course with Nick Agar in 2017 at his workshop in Devon. The skills we worked on were Texturing, Colouring and  Burning. It was a turning point for me and it furthered my move away from ‘traditional’ towards ‘artistic’ woodturning.

I have written articles that have appeared in the IWG and the AAW magazines.
